Different Types Of Ant Infestations

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants are the most destructive kind of ant. Though they don’t match the level of destruction that termites achieve, they are capable of causing severe structural damage if not taken care of. Carpenter ants are a common infestation and one that should be taken very seriously. These ants feed on honeydew from aphids and don’t actually eat wood. Instead, they remove wood to make nests.

Odorous House Ant

Odorous house ants are the most common ant in terms of infestation. They are capable of contaminating food sources and are irritating to have around. These ants can be identified through the odor they leave behind when crushed. These ants do not bite or sting, but their large numbers can be obnoxious. These ants feed on honeydew from aphids, making gardens a desirable location for them.

Pavement Ants

Pavement ants are another one of the most common infestations. These ants typically make their homes under the pavement but will find their way into your home if it has suitable conditions. These ants are not known to bite or sting. These ants love sweet and greasy food items and are a common sight at restaurants because of this.

How we handle infestations

If you find yourself with an ant infestation on your hands, treatment starts with a simple phone call. After receiving your phone call, we’ll dispatch a team of experts to perform an inspection of your home. After determining where the ants have made their home, we’ll treat the issue the same day. We’ll treat both the inside and the outside, being sure to eliminate the entire colony. If we discover that there are satellite colonies, we’ll take care of those too. After eliminating the ant problem, we’ll schedule check-ins to ensure that the ants don’t make their way back into your home.

Checking Back In

We’ll schedule follow-up visits with you to see how the treatment has worked and, if needed, strengthen the preventative measures taken. We make sure that there are no signs of a returning infestation, and if there are, deal with the issue accordingly. We’ll work closely with you during this time to ensure that the plan has gone as expected

General Information

Ants are a common household pest and, although they don’t pose an immediate threat, can become an annoyance due to the pure number of them. Ants rarely, if ever, travel alone. They also lay down a scent trail, meaning that hundreds of more ants will make their way into your home if not treated properly. If you notice ants coming into your house in increasing numbers, it’s time to call an exterminator.
We take pride in our ability to communicate and always ensure that you have a complete understanding of what the treatment plan is and what it entails. Communication is our top priority. Any questions that you may have regarding the treatment and progress will be answered professionally and honestly. We will plan follow-up meetings with you to make sure that the treatment is going as planned and the ants are staying away.

How To Get Rid of Ants in the House

An ant or two here and there may not seem like an overwhelming ordeal and maybe it isn’t. Maybe you have been leaving food out more than you do normally and a few bugs or ants have been temporarily attracted to your space because of this. Maybe you are seeing ants because of the weather shift. Whatever the reason, if you are regularly seeing ants at this point, you very likely have an infestation or some number of ant nests inside or outside of your space and home. Here is a great resource to learn more about ants’ behavior visit homepestcontrol.org.

Beginning the process of removing ants from your home typically begins with assessing the space to see what type of ant you have inside of your home currently. The way that you handle and approach certain types of ants for removal can vary slightly. So, what you do for one type of ant may not be the most ideal or efficient way to remove another. Carpenter ants, for instance, can cause large and severe foundational damage to important parts of your home or residence. The removal of carpenter ants is necessary almost immediately. The longer they stick around, the more damage that can be done to your home. Some sort of damage can be done by almost any type of ant and assessing what type of ant you currently have in your space is an ideal way to begin the process. Magic Touch Exterminating and Wildlife Control can assist you in identifying what type of ant you currently have in your space, along with many other steps required in the ant removal process.

The next beneficial step forward in your ant removal revolves around discovering where the nests are located. The ants you are currently seeing around your space are scout ants. They are the ones that leave the space to find food and other necessities. If you see them around, you can observe them and see where they head after they have found food. This can lead you to the general area the nest might be located in. Finding the nest in your ant removal is so important. This is where they reside most of the time and where the majority of the ants will be located at one time. Finding this spot and spraying it with insecticide can take care of a large portion of the ant problem. Professionals know where to look and how to find these ant nests. Magic Touch Exterminating and Wildlife Control has the knowledge and expertise to discover where your ants are hiding swiftly and with ease.

Once you have found the nests and taken care of that portion of the issue with an insecticide, a large portion of the ants may be taken care of. However, it is very likely that a large portion of ants was not currently at the nest or colony or there could be an additional nest inside of your home. Setting traps and baits can take care of ants that venture out of the nest regularly and are hard to track down. Once you know what type of ant you currently have in your home, you can decide what type of bait to use. Some baits work better for some than others. You can use honey or other food items found in your pantry to attract them to the toxic bait or trap. This step is important in addition to eliminating the nest because many ants spend a good amount of time away from the nest.

Another portion of the process includes eliminating their trials. Ants, along with other bugs or rodent species, leave behind a scented trail. This allows the ants to follow similar paths to find their way to food sources and back to their nest or colony. This trail needs to be eliminated in order to keep stray ants or stray groups of ants from returning to the nests or other common areas.

Seeing an infestation of ants can be overwhelming. No one likes seeing bugs in their home, no matter the type. Ants are small, but they can bite and drive you crazy. A thorough and efficient removal is almost always required and Magic Touch Exterminating and Wildlife Control can help you with the process. We have the expertise to take care of your ant problem with ease and speed.
